Sustainable events toolkit

In North East England we see tourism and events as a catalyst for transformation, supporting economic growth through employment and skills, and contributing to the wellbeing of local communities and the revitalisation of our stunning natural landscapes and cultural heritage.

Conferences and events provide a distinct opportunity to make positive social and environmental impacts here and further afield. They offer a natural platform for demonstrating best practice in sustainable events and visiting destinations responsibly, meaning delegates and speakers can take home additional knowledge and behaviours which can make their future conferences, events and trips more sustainable too.

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau has developed a sustainable events toolkit on behalf of Destination North East England. The toolkit is a set of guides and resources designed to enable responsible event planners to deliver sustainable events in North East England. In each section of the toolkit you will find an explanation as to why event planners should consider each of the sustainability measures, as well as tips specific to hosting events here, such as local suppliers, volunteering opportunities and food donation programmes.
